In keeping with the credit union philosophy of "People Helping People", Valley First and 104.1 The Hawk are teaming up to bring Random Acts of Kindness or RAK throughout the communities we serve. Our hope is that these RAKs will encourage others to pass along the kindness.Check back regularly for updates and photos!

This weekend at the Stanislaus County Fair, Valley First and 104.1 The Hawk planned to begin a new and different kind of radio promotion. Taking a serious cue from the great folks at The Chive, we thought, instead of giving away a car or doing some silly radio promotion, why not spread goodwill and the money into the community through Random Acts of Kindness…or RAK. And so it begins.
We’d get our feet wet by going small…our plan was to simply thank Joan Jett for playing the Stanislaus County Fair with an oversized thank you card signed by the crowd. But then things changed when we came into contact with Lynette Goforth and her son Ethan, a young man with Asperger’s who happens to be the world’s biggest Joan Jett fan. In the words of Ethan’s mom, Joan Jett is “his calmness”.
In talking with Lynette, she had told us how they’d taken Ethan to see Joan many times, but that he’d never gotten the chance to meet her. Lynette asked if there would be any way that might be able to happen. After a lot of quick string pulling and cashing in of favors, we were able to make it happen, and Ethan got to meet Joan.
Now, Valley First, 104.1 The Hawk and Kasasa are going to take a boatload of cash and RAK the Valley for the rest of the year, so be on the lookout.
Thank you Joan Jett, 104.1 The Hawk, Kasasa and the Chive (for the inspiration) for all having a hand in making a special young man’s dream come true.
