Cell Phone Text Scams
Beware...there are fake cell phone text message scams "smishing" for your card numbers, PINs or even to steal you identity!
The text message may appear to be from a well known source and will often give the impression you must reply immediately to avoid a "threat" or to maintain access to your funds/account or ability to use your credit, debit or ATM card.
The fake text message will use fear or a sense or urgency to trick you into responding by stating...
- your card is blocked, deactivated or suspended and needs to be reactivated
- you need to reply to complete or cancel a financial transaction
- your account is compromised or in danger due to a security risk
- you need to verify your account or card information
- anything to get you to reply or do what they ask
These are fake messages. Legitimate business and financial institutions (including Valley First Credit Union) do NOT use text messages to obtain or verify personal financial information, account numbers/information, user IDs, passwords, social security numbers, credit or debit card numbers, etc.
To protect yourself, DO NOT RESPOND. Do NOTcall any phone number, visit any website or click on any link provided in the text message.
